Redeemed

Redeemed, how I love to proclaim it,
Redeemed by the blood of the Lamb;
Redeemed thro' his infinite mercy,
His child and forever I am.

refrain
Redeemed, redeemed, redeemed by the blood of the Lamb,
Redeemed thro' his infinite mercy,
His child and forever I am.

Redeemed, and so happy in Jesus,
No language my rapture can tell,
I know that the light of his presence
With me doth continually dwell.
refrain

I think of my blessed Redeemer,
I think of him all the day long,
I sing, for I cannot be silent,
His love is theme of my song.
refrain

I know I shall see in his beauty
The King in whose law I delight,
Who lovingly guardeth my footsteps,
And giveth me songs in the night,
refrain

I know there's a crown that is waiting
In yonder bright mansion for me,
And soon, with the spirits made perfect,
At home with the Lord I shall be.
refrain

Tune: "Ada," Aubrey L. Butler

About the Author

Frances Jane "Fanny" Crosby (1820–1915) was one of the most prolific hymn-writers of all time, having written over 8000 under 200-odd pseudonyms. Blind from early childhood, she nonetheless thanked God for her affliction: "It seemed intended by the blessed providence of God that I should be blind all my life, and I thank him for the dispensation. . . . I might not have sung hymns to the praise of God if I had been distracted by the beautiful and interesting things about me."

Thoughts

This old standby gained new life when I first heard it attached to the tune "Ada." (It is copyrighted, so I can't post it here. You can find it in the Baptist and Celebration hymnals if you have one, or online at SmallChurchMusic.com.) I find the waltzy feel a bit of a better match than the traditional pairing, "Redeemed."
